WordPress

What exactly is WordPress?

WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that lets you create and administer a blog or other website.

It is not only a simple and easy system for creating a personal blog, but it also allows you to create all kinds of more complicated websites. It has been around for about ten years and has over a thousand themes (templates) available on its official website.

WordPress is an excellent platform for a frequently updated website.

When someone visits your website, they will be able to find all of the content in chronological order if you produce content regularly (newest first and oldest last).

It’s a great system for newcomers or those who don’t have any technical skills.

WordPress offers a plugin system that allows you to extend WordPress’ capabilities, making it a more flexible CMS.

We’ve already addressed what it is, and now we’ll go over the essential features of WordPress.

Blog

It is its most prominent feature. WordPress has all of the standard blog features in its basic installation, such as the ability to show articles in blog format, post comments to entries, organise papers by categories or tags, and so on.

In addition, numerous widgets, which are common to blogs, can be added to the web: a list of blog categories, tags, a search engine, a list of the most popular articles, a list of the most recent comments, and so on.

With all of this in mind, it is reasonable to conclude that WordPress is the greatest tool for creating a blog, especially when considering its ease of use.

Web site for businesses

WordPress is ideal for creating a business website, defined as a page where we can share information about our company or business, such as who we are, our services, and our clientele.

We may obtain a wide range of styles for our website thanks to the numerous templates available for WordPress, ranging from a website with a minimalist design that reveals little information to complete websites that load a lot of data on each page.

To arrange the information on our website, we can create distinct sections. These aren’t restricted to static sites or blog pages; owing to the thousands of plugins available, we can add features like a contact form, a forum, and directories, among other things.

Store on the internet

Although alternative content management systems (PrestaShop, Magento, etc.) can be used to establish online stores, WordPress is a viable option because it has various plugins that can be used to integrate an online store into our website. Although we choose to use another plugin, WooCommerce is the most recommended of them all.

We will be able to have an online store with all of the specific functionalities that we expect to find in an application of this type thanks to WordPress and the WooCommerce plugin: unlimited product creation, product organisation by category, ability to add attributes to products, various payment and shipping systems, advanced order management, and so on.

The capabilities of our store will not be limited to those provided by WooCommerce; thanks to the specific plugins available, we will be able to add hundreds of new features, such as mass product import, shipping costs by postal code, credit card payment gateways, product prices by quantity, invoice generation, and so on.

How do you set up WordPress?

WordPress is not just simple to use in terms of content management; the installation procedure is also incredibly straightforward, and it will only take a few minutes to complete.

First and foremost, we require a location to install WordPress. If we have a web server installed on our local computer (for example, Apache), we can do it there or use a hosting service. We can only make the website visible to other people if we utilise this last option. The server on which the website is hosted must be able to run PHP and MySQL databases. Some minimal prerequisites must be completed for everything to work properly.

We must download the WordPress installer and unzip it to the location where the web will be loaded after we have a place to host our WordPress. The next step is to establish a MySQL database and a user with access to it.

Now we must go to the page where the WordPress files were posted. In many steps, an installation wizard will appear, prompting us to enter the database connection data, the name of our website, and the administrator user’s information.

We’ll have the website ready to start adding content and personalising after finishing this wizard.

The installation process will be easier if you have a WordPress hosting account.

You will have the chance to choose between different WordPress designs from the account’s identical control panel (company, blog, store, etc.)

The installation will be completed automatically, requiring just the input of a few parameters: installation directory, web name, login, and password. The files will not need to be uploaded, and the database will not need to be created.
